Beginning in 1911 Heinrich Campendonk (1889–1957), like many of the Blauer Reiter colleagues, experimented with the fascinating technique of reverse glass painting, with which he achieved glowing colours and a very special depth of light. Within the framework of an interdisciplinary research project, art historical, art technological and material-related studies were conducted, resulting in a well-founded, richly illustrated catalogue of 76 reverse glass paintings.
